SUSTAINABILITY
Recycled in Rye
Carrying forward the ethos of useful waste, we use our gorgeous gold papers to decorate used food cans to create fabulous pen pots or organisational caddies. Covered in our fine papers both inside and out, these cans inspire creativity in both young and old. Recently, this Christmas (2022), our cans have made it as far as New Zealand, inspiring one customer’s ninety-year-old mother to take up crafting again. Easy to do as a crafting project, these metal cans last long, prettying up the arrangement of mundane items around the desk, kitchen, and nooks around the home or on bookshelves.
The Newspaper Bag Story
The newspaper bag story is a truly heartening one. Growing up in Bombay, one of the many difficult realities one must face and accept is the bevy of street children who work and play beside the racing traffic of a busy city. Two young men who grew up in these very circumstances decided to change their destiny. They took an everyday waste product, the crisp newspaper discarded daily, and turned it into a useful carrier bag. Set up in 2004, this tiny venture now exports their excellent quality bags to traders globally. We at the Paper Place decided to support these young entrepreneurs from our birth city, by choosing to have their beautifully handmade, well-corded recycled, recyclable product as our bag. We personalised these, with our name handwritten on the old Indian language and English language papers, giving them out at no cost to our customers.
